Sally McCairn

Sally is the founder of Pure Salsa which has been running for  just over three years. She teaches classes in and around Cambridgeshire to children and adults along with a team of dedicated teachers.

Sally began dancing salsa eight years ago whilst living in Bari, Italy. A brave decision to leave her job as an interpreter and go back to study dance and choreography full time lead her to start her own dance company teaching and promoting Salsa in Cambridgeshire. In the last three years she has established two of the biggest class and club nights in the area as well teaching for Cambridge University Dance Society and as a teacher for Salsa Hols in Barcelona 2007.

In addition to her classes Sally also organised and hosted Salsa del Este, one of the regions biggest and most prestigious salsa events seeing hundreds of dancers in attendance from all over the area and UK. She also organises trips to salsa congresses, holidays and events all over the UK.

Recently Sally was part of Irene Miguel’s DanzaLifestyle Performance team and performed in Street Salsa in London and has since joined Salsology Dance Co.

Mark

Mark started to learn to dance after hearing a live salsa band in a jazz club in London. It didn't take long to develop a love for the dance as well as the music and having moved to Cambridge to study for an engineering degree, he took full advantage of the opportunities to get involved with the local scene.

Since then he has performed and taught with the University Salsa Team, organised salsa balls for the Cambridge Dancers Club and played a part in the planning and running of Salsa Del Este.

He joined Pure Salsa in 2007 and now helps teach during term times on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Chris B

Chris Brown first found salsa at his gym after retiring from competitive cycling four years ago. He instantly developed a love for the music, and the dance, and soon became a regular on the scene.

Chris has participated in numerous events as a teacher, and promoter, and was a core member of the team behind Salsa del Este.

Jay

Jay has always been a great lover of Latin Jazz and after stumbling onto a salsa night at The Globe in London, he instantly got the bug. He located a class and has never looked back. Jay is one of the longest standing salsa dancers in Cambridgeshire and has been on the scene since it first emerged in the area over 10 years ago.

Jay’s passion for music and dance, his easy going teaching manner and unique style makes him a popular instructor working regularly with Pure Salsa and other local promoters.

David

David’s introduction to salsa happened one drunken night in 2004, having stumbled (literally) into a pub where a class was being taught. With no dancing background and no thoughts of ever undertaking Salsa as an activity, he was encouraged to come along the following week by 2 friends who coincidently happened to be in the class that night.

Game for anything, David went along and found himself becoming addicted to the dancing, the social, the people and the laughs. He even met his fiancé that very first night he stumbled into the Salsa class and they can both be seen dancing today at Sally’s events and classes.

Since that first eventful night David has been dancing regularly and can be found at many of the local events and places from Blackpool to Barcelona. He joined the pure salsa team in 2007 and now assists Sally with her classes held in St Ives on a Monday evening.

Charlotte

Charlotte discovered Salsa and Sally at her local Recreation Centre three and a half years ago and was hooked after her very first lesson.  Having not had any dance instruction for 25 years she was surprised at how natural it felt and she soon developed a passion for the music as well as the dance.

She started to teach for Pure Salsa in St Ives, Huntingdon and Cambridge two and a half years ago and is a regular teacher at all classes and events.

Over the last couple of years she has attended many of the congresses and work shop events held in the UK and found them to be of great benefit in progressing her dancing as well as very entertaining.

Recently she enjoyed being involved in organising Salsa del Este and performing with the Pure Ladies Demo Team.

Lindsey

With a life long passion for dance, and after being involved in various dance projects as a teenager, Lindsey finally found salsa nearly 3 years ago.
Sally was her first teacher and encouraged her massively to go further into the salsa world, to which she has never looked back.
She started teaching salsa 'on1'  at the start of 2006 and more recently 'on2', and found huge enjoyment in passing her passion over to her students and
watching them grow.

She has also been involved in competitions and performances across the region, and also assisted in the organization of Cambridgeshire’s hottest all day event-"Salsa Del Este".

Lindsey enjoys traveling all over the country to various salsa events with her close group of girlfriends who have been affectionately named "The Salsa
Mafia" by all who know them.

Nicola

Having danced as a child and into her teens, Nicola decided to return to dance three years ago when she took up Salsa. Soon becoming a passion, she began teaching two years ago.

She has been involved in organising events with the Pure Salsa Team, including Cambridgeshire's very own all day event, Salsa del Este. She has also performed with the Pure Ladies Team, choreographed by Sally.

Jane

Jane started salsa way back in her first year at University in London where she got the bug. On moving to Cambridge she discovered CBL salsa and was a regular on the Cambridge CBL scene when it was centred around Friday nights at Parish hall, behind the catholic church. She was one of the first to join the Cambridge University Salsa Team in the year prior to its support by CDC when it was but a gleam in Ivan's eye, and is still one of the longest serving members enjoying competing, performing and teaching at May Balls and other University and private functions.

She started teaching with Pure Salsa in 2006 and is most often found supporting Sally in her endeavours on a Thursday night at Club Salsa. Most recently she assisted in organising and teaching at the all day event Salsa Del Este and performed with Sally's Pure Salsa ladies at various events.

Polly

Polly’s love for dancing began at the age of three dancing at King Slocombe School of Dance in Cambridge. At 16 she moved to London to embark on a three year BA Honours Degree course in professional dance and Performance where she trained in Ballet, Contemporary and musical theatre at Central School of Ballet, London.

Here she toured 21 venues in Britain with the Company Ballet Central and graduated in 2006 as a professional Ballerina and Contemporary dancer. Whilst in London Polly was an assistant Ballet teacher to children aged 3-17 and also participated in a Community Outreach programme to try to increase awareness of dance in London and the surrounding area.

In her final year at Central Polly was introduced to Salsa in Cambridge and has not stop dancing Salsa since.
